Westminster Schools of Augusta is a Pre-K through 12 regionally-accredited, coeducational, college-preparatory, Christian day school enrolling close to 650 students. The 34-acre campus is located in a residential section of Augusta, which is Georgia’s second-largest metropolitan area. The school is affiliated with First Presbyterian Church of Augusta (PCA), but the student body and faculty include members from more than 90 different local churches of various denominations.

Substitute Teacher

Essential Functions & Expectation
  • In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons and to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms

  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher

  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students

  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned

  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting lesson objectives

  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, clears chalkboard, etc.

  • Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures

  • Indicates to students at beginning of class the basic expectations for behavior in the class in accordance with school policy

  • Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom

  • May perform duties usually required of absent teacher such as lunchroom duty, hall monitoring, etc.

  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned

  • Knows procedures for referring students who are disciplinary problems

  • Knows school procedures and regulations

  • Performs other related duties as directed by principal

  • Use of personal electronic equipment is prohibited during class hours.


General Qualifications

  • Candidate must be at least 18 years of age

  • Christian who attends a Bible Believing Church

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher

  • Candidate must agree to fingerprinting and authorize Westminster via Richmond County Board of Education to conduct a Criminal History Records Search

  • High standards of professional conduct, support of the Christian mission of the school

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly sit, talk, and hear

  • Regularly uses close and distance vision

  • Frequently lifts up to 50 lb. of school equipment

  • Works in a potentially stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges

  • May stand or work at a desk for extended periods of time

  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom or office environment. Occasionally works outdoors subjected to extreme heat or cold
